ShredEx

Feb 2024 - Aug 2024

what even is ShredEx??

ShredEx was the final student project game I worked on, with my team Redline, during my game design program at Vancouver Film School and is the largest project i have finished to date. we had around 6 months to create the project and so we aimed to make a simple gameplay loop with an emphasis on skill expression.

ShredEx is a third person, platforming and racing game. play as Ed, a delivery robot about to be scrapped unless he can prove his worth to his boss. to survive, Ed must use his trusty hoverboard and deliver packages around the open-world city before the timer runs out!

this project was made in unreal engine 5 and features a trick system including grind rails, airtime, and boost ramps. the game also features a scoring system with a multiplier based on your tricks, deliveries, and efficiency.

who worked on this??

fun facts!

all around the map there are hidden props referencing other games our classmates were creating while we made ShredEx!

Ed used to be able to throw packages from a distance, however this feature had to be cut due to scope restraints

almost all the props in the world are quite innacurately large due to the odd camera perspective you get from being on a floating hoverboard

we originally wanted an ending screen similar to Sonic Forces where Ed would give a thumbs up if he won or would explode if he lost

the gameplay, aesthetics, and overall vibe were heavily inspired by games such as Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk with our goal being to emulate a fast-paced, y2k, arcade game

Ed was created and voiced by the same person! Adam Ramsay our character artist:D
